Cat urine always seems to have a very strong scent to it. If your cat were to pee on your coat, in your purse or on your backpack without you knowing it, you'll surely know it when your sitting in your office or your in class.

Cat's urine has a very strong odor because of the amount of protein that is contained in it. If you own cats, there is a good chance that your home, clothing and other items that you use on a daily basis smell like cat urine. I can imagine that you've grown very tired of that smell, becaues it can be very embarrassing. If you are wondering how you can get rid of that smell in your home, keep reading.

1. First and foremost, it's very important that you keep their litter box clean at all times. There are two reasons why you need to keep their litter box clean, one is that if the litter box is full all the time, the scent is going to travel throughout your home.

Another reason is if your cat's litter box is full, they will find other places in your home to go in your home, like your brand new carpet or on your nice new jacket. Cats are picky animals, they won't want to pee or poop in a box that is already full of it.

2. Always clean old messes as soon as possible and be sure you clean it thoroughly. If you let the poop or pee sit in an area for too long it will leave stains and the smell will be very difficult to remove. Also, it's like the cat is marking their territory and they will want to repeat going in that area but if they can't smell their pee or poop, then they won't want to go in that area again. Clean it so you or the cat can no longer smell the urine.

3. There are remedies that have been known to help rid the smell of cat urine from your belongings and your home.

-Peroxide. The only thing you need to consider when using peroxide is that some surfaces can be discolored. But peroxide can break down components in cat urine that cause odor and stains. Pour a small amount directly on the area and allow to dry. Rinse with warm water and soak up with a paper towel or rag.

- Baking soda and vinegar. Soak up as much of the cat urine as you can with a mixture of 2/3 cup of water, 1/3 cup of white vinegar and a little bit of soap. Use a clean rag to soak up any excess liquid pressing firmly and repeatedly until it's dry. Then use fresh water and repeat this process, but use a different rag to soak up the water. Sprinkle baking soda on the area but vacuum it in about 24 hours. Adding a little bit of Listerine Mouthwash to the vinegar and water mix can help as well. There is a large amount of alcohol in this mouthwash and that is how it rids the smell.
